I have been teaching Czech to foreigners since 1997. You can hardly imagine what a challenge your native language might be until you start "to try to teach it". Czech is a very rich, wonderful, colourful language. All foreigners who study or even try to study it have my highest respect. My teaching philosophy is simple; I am a servant for my students. I am here to help them overcome all the obstacles learning the Czech language might bring. It is not only hard work but a lot of fun as well. Humour is a great partner in the teaching/ learning process. I remember once I asked a group of my students to prepare a short dialogue for a restaurant situation. They ended up ordering a fried blue hedgehog! They just liked the words in the dictionary :). I use various textbooks and other materials that lead to communicative Czech.
Substitutions and open dialogues: to check comprehension
Stylistic exercises: to give students a view into the creative side of Czech
Vocabulary: to increase word choice
Communication and roleplay: to give students practice with the communication skills covered at various points.
I always try to use realistic texts and dialogues. And in them I introduce new grammatical points to illustrate their usage in a concrete situation.
